I have almost forgotten that they are dogs.

What began as a playful response to my fear of dogs has evolved into a much broader artistic language. The dog is now my chosen three-dimensional canvas: a familiar form that allows me to tell stories about memory, travel, identity, desire, loss, humour and the absurdities of being human.

My background spans art, design, interiors, prop-making and visual storytelling. Rather than seeing these disciplines as separate, I have always moved freely between them, taking whatever approach or material best serves the idea. Craftsmanship remains at the heart of my practice. Every work begins with making, with the physical act of transforming an object into something capable of carrying meaning.

The dogs are never portraits of animals. They are characters, vessels and storytellers. Their surfaces become places where personal memories, cultural references, symbols, words and observations are layered together. Some works draw on my travels around the world, others on childhood memories, art history, popular culture or everyday experiences. Humour often provides the entry point, but beneath the playfulness there is usually a more complex narrative.

I am interested in contradiction. A sculpture may appear light-hearted while addressing something deeper. A bronze sculpture may disguise itself as a cardboard box. A familiar object may reveal itself to be something entirely different when viewed from another angle. I enjoy the moment when expectation and reality collide, and when the viewer discovers details that were initially hidden.

Because sculpture exists in physical space, it demands movement and participation. I deliberately place words, symbols and visual clues around a piece so that no single viewpoint reveals everything. The work unfolds gradually as the viewer walks around it, discovering fragments of a larger story.

Although my work is often recognised through the recurring dog form, my real subject has always been human experience. The sculptures are a way of exploring how we construct meaning through objects, memories and imagination. They are playful, but they are also deeply personal. Each one captures a particular thought, question or moment in time.

Ultimately, I want the work to communicate directly. I believe art can be intelligent without being inaccessible, and meaningful without taking itself too seriously. If a sculpture makes someone smile, look twice, discover something unexpected, or uncover a hidden detail, then it has done its job.
